ARGENTIC

ARGENTIC develops a sovereign, trustworthy, and energy-aware ecosystem for agentic AI across the Cloud–Edge–IoT continuum. By delivering a modular reference architecture, an SDK, and edge-optimized models, the project addresses deployment fragmentation to ensure workload portability and interoperability. ARGENTIC empowers autonomous, human-aligned AI agents across distributed infrastructures while guaranteeing explainability, compliance with the EU AI Act and GDPR, and measurable reductions in energy consumption compared to cloud-centric baselines.

ARGENTIC develops a sovereign, trustworthy, and energy-aware ecosystem for agentic AI across the Cloud–
Edge–IoT continuum. The project addresses fragmentation in today’s AI deployments by delivering a modular reference architecture, SDK, and edge-optimised AI models that ensure workload portability, interoperability, and alignment with EU priorities for sovereignty and trust. ARGENTIC aims to empower autonomous yet human-aligned AI agents that operate across distributed infrastructures while guaranteeing explainability, compliance with the AI Act and GDPR, and measurable reductions in energy consumption compared to cloud-centric baselines.

To achieve these goals, ARGENTIC integrates federated learning and knowledge graphs for cross-domain collaboration without raw data sharing, energy-aware orchestration algorithms and swarm/gossip scheduling to optimise inference latency and resource efficiency, human-in-the-loop governance workflows validated by an ethics board to safeguard fairness, oversight, and transparency, and digital twins for real-time monitoring and feedback loops in critical sectors.

Validation is carried out through seven large-scale pilots spanning healthcare, energy, marketing, tourism, agriculture, recruitment, and virtual companions. Each pilot provides sector-specific evidence of impact, while a cross-pilot assessment evaluates scalability, social acceptability, and EU-wide applicability.
